((How about some freaking Lovecraft Role play?))
Its the early 1930's, The Great Depression has hit the US hard, and prohibition had sparked the less savory trades of smuggling, bootlegging, and general organized crime. Mob families and gangs had started springing up all across the Nation, some trades reaching to other countries...
Midnight had fallen over the bustling city of Chicago, it was another starless night, the only light coming from the street lamps and passing cars. A young man with matted brown hair is strolling down the street, coat hung over his shoulder. He stops in front of a small antiques shop, eying an old, leather bound book in the front display. Bending down to pick up a brick, hefting it in one hand to test it's weight as he mutters to himself. "No one gives little old Sal any mind..."

The window is broken, and the leather bound book is tugged out of the display, Sal Morinari, a small time crook had just stole an old artifact of great power, he doesn't know what the boss needs it for, or cares. This was his spot in the big time, his time in the limelight, and hell, he's getting paid for a dusty old book.
An hour or so passes, and Sal manages to head into a local 'diner', his ill gotten gain under his overcoat, tossing back a shot of vodka.
