2012 went by without a hitch, it was the war six years later that truly tore the world apart. Stalemates of ground combat lead to a rain of hellfire from the nuclear reserves built up by the two alliances, the Holy Alliance, a group of European nations that fell under strict church rule in 1982, and the Commonwealth, a Union of the United states, Russia, and China to pool the world's resources together, Economy fought with religion, and blew the whole damn earth apart.
Fifty years later, whats left of human kind is still struggling in the irradiated wastes. One such area is Nevada, in a run down backwater settlement called "Los Mortos" Nestled deep within a canyon and escaping the burning radiated winds from the closest ground Zero site sixty miles south. It's in this town where we begin the story, Where young men and women come seeking adventure. Where the meek hide from the mutants and the beasts of the wild.
Friends:
Humans: Unmutated men and women, (Or at least seemingly unmutated) Are surprisingly, not a rare site in the wastes. While there are far less of them then they were these days, the plain Jane and Joe manning the local watering hole might be just that!
Mutates: Those pumped with enough radiation and carrying just the right genes will develop more beneficial mutations then harmful ones. These mutations are subtle and only assist in minute ways, such as more strength, more speed, minor -kinisis powers, faster reasoning when using weapons, and such and such. However Mutates are often looked down upon or shunned, but some places welcome them.
Infected Humans: Those who are infected have higher damage resistance and resistance to most diseases and poisons. However, if they should ever be killed, the virus will reanimate them. Infected humans can always be picked out by their red tinted irises and bruised looking nails.

Foes:
Bandits: These guys are looking for a good time, and that good time usually means robbing traders and pillaging cities, These bands of normal humans can sometimes be noble, for the right price. If You cant fight your way from some bandits, they might be willing to barter, Hope you have something worth while.
Slavers: However cliche it is, history repeats itself, and slavery has become a trade again in the wastes, Slavers are like bandits, except they deal in people and not things. They are more likely to kill then bandits. It's a good idea to avoid them.
Cult of the Red Moon: Forget reasoning with these nutjobs, they'll gut you and sacrifice you without a problem, Hopped on hallucinogenic drugs, they constantly see and red and hear voices in their heads. Don't get caught alone or be dead!
Mutated Animals: Everything from ants to dogs have been affected in some way or form here by the fallout, Feel free to run an idea up the wall if you wish with these perversions of nature.
Wild Mutates: Some mutated humans lose their sanity out in the wastes, taking up cannibalism and hunting down "Perfects" as some humans are called, They might be less willing to attack an allied mutate on the party, but they are hostile none the less. The varieties for these freaks are endless.
Zombies: You know them, you love them (Splattered with a shotgun). A Virus strain has broken out in the desert and has turned some carriers into the living dead.
Virus: A mutated strain has been appearing recently, while infected humans who receive the virus from meat or water do not die, they have a good chance of turning undead when killed. Some times the strain will infect amoebas and cause them to grow in excess. (See Infected in Player races for more info on how the virus effects humans)
Re-activated weapons: These turrets and robots were created during the 90's weapon's rush between the Holy Alliance and the Commonwealth, Lasers, Gatling guns, fully mobile drones and assault suits that fell in the hands of a bandit party are all technologically advanced challenges the party might face.

Los Mortos' Amenities
The Rusted Lock: A bar selling watered down swill is the common attraction to Los Mortos, Half decent food is also served here and the party can find a bed to stay in, always.
The Last Clip: A Scavenged gun store. These guns are either makeshift or older then you, but they can get the job done.
The Scrap Yard: A pile of dirt and pieces of metal that, to some, are trash, but to someone with a mind in the experimenting and handy work... Well lets say Macgyver could outfit an army or diffuse a tactical nuke.
There are also six buildings serving as shelter for townsfolk, and a pit of raw copper ore to the south. To the north is the Dead Rise, where a ten minute walk uphill places you directly in the middle of a wasteland.

That's the setting, Loosely, And anyone can add to it. And there is more then one settlement in the wastes.
