Ok, so I was online today and my friend Jay IMs me and he's all bitching about america again and how corrupt it is and whatnot. I'm just sort of like "whatever jay." and he continues on talking about how everything's so commercial now and everyone's selfish and blah blah blah
me: well would you rather live here or in some starving third world country and have to work in a sweat shop?
Jay: well what makes you think there aren't starving people and sweat shops here?
Me: right but neither of us are so I'd say we have it okay here
Jay:which is why you fall under the category what America is good for
Me:ok so where would you rather live? enlighten me.
Jay:In a better society? It could be that way if less people had incredibely selfish viewpoints, such as "As long as I'm not the one starving, starvation is not a problem"
Me:It's the human imparetive. think of self first. But I think of other people too. I do what I can. God knows how much food I've collected and donated to charities. I play free rice whenever I can to help out starving children in africa. I do what I can and I don't crap myself over helping people.
Jay:I have to go
Me:just don't say I don't help out when I do. bye
Jay:But remember, you're proud to live in a country that arrests those who feed the hungry as terrorists.
Me:whatver bye.
ARHAWELHR. makes me SO angry. why is it so easy for people to go around pointing fingers without looking at themselves first?
It's so easy for Jay and a ton of other people I'm sure to bitch and complain about how nobody helps the less fortunate. If that were truly his stance on life, he would only buy and consume the essentials right? yet what does he do in his spare time? help the homeless? uh no. he sits on his computer, bitches to me about practically everything, and looks at porn.
Why doesn't he donate his computer to schools in africa where they really need it? oh yeah. because he has the same selfish viewpoint as the people he's pointing fingers at.
If you're going to tell somebody that they're selfish for not hating their own country then make sure you first:
A)Get your head out of your ass
B)Donate all of your income to less fortunate people
C)Join the peace corps
D)adopt 6,000,000 starving children and feed, clothe, and educate all of them
E)end world hunger
F)shut down all the sweat shops
G)abolish capitolism
H)bring peace, quality, and fairness to every corner of the planet
I'm so sick of all these assholes who go around preaching their Holier Than Thou bullshit to people who REALLY don't care.
YES the world is corrupt
YES this country is corrupt
YES there are fucking problems and nothing is ever going to be perfect
I don't like it. nobody likes it. Don't try and guilt me just because I happen to enjoy living an upper middle class lifestyle. I'm not gonna crap myself over feeding every single starving child. I do what I can. I do my part and donate to charities and don't expect much more from me because honestly it's NEVER a perfect system. there's ALWAYS going to be somebody in need, there's ALWAYS going to be some kind of political and economical issues, it's perpetual, but I won't constantly trouble myself with the burdens of others. it's the human imperative.
don't be an asshole. if you want to help people, help people. that's great. but don't expect everybody to be like you.
one other thing that pisses me off in jay's case is that he only started this whole "I'm gonna make a difference in the world" thing like...2 weeks ago. no joke. he's all "I'm gonna go vegan and save animals and help people and blah blah blah blah blah" I'm like "that's cool I've been a vegan since I was like 15 and a vegetarian since I was 11 and I volunteered at a reptile rehabilitation center and participated in my school's cancer walk and raised over 300 dollars and organized a food drive at my school." but now he thinks that just because I don't spend every waking hour trying to shove information down people's throats, I'm a horrible selfish person. Yes, that's exactly it. I am selfish. thank you for clearing that up. hah. yeah, go fuck yourself.
